The iPhone 17 is the first standard iPhone with ProMotion and an Always-On display, both of which used to be Pro features. Both rear cameras are 48 MP, the 18 MP Centre Stage front camera takes landscape selfies with the phone held upright, and storage starts at 256 GB.

• Buttons: Camera Control and the Action button.
• Apple Intelligence: supported.
• SIM: a nano-SIM and an eSIM on most phones; those first sold in the US and a few other countries are eSIM-only.
• Water: seals age, and a repair can disturb them, so treat the water rating as protection from splashes and spills rather than a reason to take it swimming.
