iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 gave the standard iPhone what used to be Pro-only: the Action button and Apple Intelligence. It also added Camera Control, a pressure-sensitive button on the side that opens the camera and adjusts zoom and exposure with a slide of your thumb. The two cameras now sit one above the other, which lets it record spatial video.

Highlights

• Display: 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR (OLED) with the Dynamic Island, up to 2000 nits outdoors.
• Chip: A18.
• Cameras: 48 MP Fusion, which also gives a 2x optical-quality zoom, and 12 MP Ultra Wide with macro. 12 MP front camera.
• Battery: up to 22 hours of video playback when new.
• Build: Ceramic Shield front, colour-infused glass back, aluminium frame. Rated IP68 when new (6 metres for up to 30 minutes).

Good to know

• Charging: USB-C (USB 2 speeds for data), MagSafe up to 25 W with a 30 W adapter, and Qi2.
• Apple Intelligence: supported.
• SIM: a nano-SIM and an eSIM, except on phones first sold in the US, which are eSIM-only.
• Water: seals age, and a repair can disturb them, so treat the water rating as protection from splashes and spills rather than a reason to take it swimming.
