iPhone 15

The iPhone 15 brought the Dynamic Island and a 48 MP main camera to the standard iPhone, and replaced Lightning with USB-C, so it charges with the same cable as most laptops and Android phones. The colour runs through the frosted glass back rather than sitting on top of it.

Highlights

• Display: 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR (OLED) with the Dynamic Island, up to 2000 nits outdoors.
• Chip: A16 Bionic.
• Cameras: 48 MP Main, which also gives a 2x optical-quality zoom, and 12 MP Ultra Wide. 12 MP front camera with autofocus.
• Battery: up to 20 hours of video playback when new.
• Build: Ceramic Shield front, colour-infused glass back, aluminium frame. Rated IP68 when new (6 metres for up to 30 minutes).

Good to know

• Charging: USB-C (USB 2 speeds for data), MagSafe and Qi wireless pads.
• Buttons: the ring/silent switch, not the Action button.
• SIM: a nano-SIM and an eSIM, except on phones first sold in the US, which are eSIM-only.
• Water: seals age, and a repair can disturb them, so treat the water rating as protection from splashes and spills rather than a reason to take it swimming.
